Helene
Dinand's Noble Artisan Roots: A Heritage Linked to Fame
and Influence Through Centuries
Helene Dinand comes from a long bloodline of talented
and famous artisans dating back to the Middle Ages. Helene’s
grandfather was the descendant of Bernard Palissy, a French
painter from the 1500’s who was well known and regarded
for his unconventional artistic technique that influenced
dinnerware and vases throughout Europe during his century.
The name “Dinand” comes from the “Saintonge”
region in Western France and originated from “Dinandier
/ Dinanderie,” a family name dating back to the 1150s.
The Dinandiers’ were well known for a unique artistic
technique applied to copper, brass, tin, silver and gold,
mostly used for artistic cooking ware. Their technique still
influences the style of some copper and brass cookware today.
The present day term “Dinandier or Dianderie shop”
refers to a modern day French artisan who applies the “Dinandier”
technique to metals that include copper, brass, tin, silver
and gold.
